Pittsford Wins Third Straight
Section V Title
Convincingly!!
For
the third year in a row, the Pittsford S’Women won the Section V Class A Championships. The S’Women scored 560 points with second
place Fairport scoring 413. Although the S’Women are
not new to winning the championship, it was the first time in the team’s
history that the team has won three in a row. It was also the first time that
all swimmers who qualified for the meet returned to the finals.
Junior
Hailey Weniger was named Section V Division 1 Swimmer of the Year. She was the
500 yard champion and set school records in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.44)
and the 500 yard freestyle (5:03.65). Other individual champions were senior
Stephanie House in the 100 yard freestyle (54.26), freshman Jenny Lewis in the
100 yard backstroke (1:01.01) and sophomore Jessie Ward in the 100 yard
breaststroke (1:08.94). The 200 yard individual medley team of Lewis, Ward, senior
Courtney Brayman and freshman Kelley Groves won their event with a time of
1:53.32. The 400 yard freestyle relay team of House, senior Libby Brush,
Brayman and Weniger set a school record (3:38.13), finishing in 2nd
place.
As
has been the case all season, it was not the first place finishes, but the
depth of the team, that carried the day. The S’Women had all four entrants
return for finals in every event except one. The S’Women had four swimmers in
the championship heat of 4 out of 8 individual races.
In
the 200 yard freestyle, Weniger finished second, sophomore Lindsay Wahl 4th,
senior Lisa Prezzano 7th and eighth grader Alex Trobe 8th.
Brush finished 3rd in the 200 yard individual medley with Brayman
right behind her in 4th. Junior Em Wells finished 8th and
freshman Aly Criscuolo 9th.
Brayman
finished 2nd in the 100 yard butterfly with Brush 4th,
Criscuolo 6th and Wells 8th. House won the 100 yard
freestyle with Arington in 2nd and
Lewis
won the 100 yard backstroke with teammate Wahl just behind her in 2nd,
freshman Olivia Tylutki in 6th and junior
Amanda Lang in 9th. Ward won the 100 yard breaststroke. Senior Becca
Hazen was in 8th, freshman Stephanie Ross in 9th and
sophomore Claire Geiser in 15th. In the final race of the meet, the
