S’Women Defeat Some of the Toughest in NY

On Saturday, October 16th, the quiet of the peaceful town of Watkins Glen was not shattered by the roar of NASCAR racing at the Glen, but by the cheers of fans at the Watkins Glen High School pool. Although Watkins Glen is world renowned for its auto racing, the high school pool was the site of some pretty stiff competition as Watkins Glen and Ithaca hosted the 11th Empire State Invitational Swim Meet. The Pittsford S’Women’s depth, once again, proved to be too much for their opponents as they won the meet with 1738 points. Ithaca, with a very strong, young team finished in second with 1559 points and perennial powerhouse Fairport finished in third with 1517 points. New Hartford, Victor, Canandaigua Academy and Watkins Glen filled out the remainder of the field.

Hailey Weniger was a double winner for the S’Women setting pool records in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle. The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Stephanie House, Kelly Groves, Jenna Arington and Weniger also set a pool record. House won the 50 yard freestyle for Pittsford.

Jenny Lewis, Jessie Ward, Courtney Brayman and Groves finished 0.05 seconds behind the winner, Ithaca, in the 200 yard medley relay. Teammates Lindsay Wahl, Stephanie Ross, Libby Brush and House finished 5th, Amanda Lang, Becca Hazen, Elise Morris, and Maggie Craig finished 10th, and Olivia Tylutki, Emm Wells, Aly Criscuolo, and Kelley Geary finished 13th.

Brayman, Wells and Criscuolo swam to 7th, 11th and 14th place finishes. House won the 50 yard freestyle while Groves finished 5th, Arington 7th and Lewis 8th.

Eliza Massie dove to a 2nd place performance with Hilary Dubeshter in 10th.  Brayman, Brush, Criscuolo and Wells put in a 2-4-9-11 performance in the 100 yard butterfly. In the 100 yard freestyle, House finished in second with a time of 54.25, less than 0.3 sec behind first place. Arington was 7th, Grove 8th and Ward 21st.

Weniger won the 500 yard freestyle with teammates Meghan Green, Prezzano and Trobe in 10th, 11th and 12th places. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Wahl, Lewis, Green and Prezzano finished in 7th behind their record setting teammates. Claire Geiser, Ward, Trobe and Tylutki finished in 12th and Rachel House, Morris, Craig and Geary finished in 13th.

In the 100 yard backstroke, Lewis finished in 3rd place with a time of 59.83 sec, less than 0.5 sec out of first place. Wahl touched in 4th place, Tylutki in 8th and Lang in 11th. Ward finished in 5th place in the 100 yard breaststroke. Hazen finished in 13th, Stephanie Ross in 15th, and Geiser in 17th.

The S’Women finished their week with a 98-58 win over Greece Olympia/Arcadia and a 56-43 victory over Gates-Chili. The 200 yard medley relay team of Lindsay Wahl, Jessie Ward, Courtney Brayman and Kelly Groves set a Gates-Chili pool record. With these wins, the S’Women improved their season record to 12-0 (10-0 dual meets) and their undefeated streak to 42.

The S’Women will face Penfield at home in their final dual meet of the season as they begin to focus on the Section V championship meet in November.
