On Saturday, the Varsity and Junior Varsity S’Women traveled to New Hartford, a community south of Utica, New York to compete in the New Hartford Invitational.  This meet, which Pittsford has been attending for years, featured competition not only from the host school but also Christian Brothers Academy, a team that the Panthers had faced off against the previous weekend.  Using a scoring system that rewards the top 12 finishers, Pittsford won the invitational beating CBA (494) and New Hartford (278) with a score of 582 points.

In the meet’s first event, the 200 Medley Relay, Pittsford finished third, fourth, eighth, ninth, and twelfth. Normally in a dual-meet, the diving portion of the competition would be held after the 50 Freestyle event.  Being an invitational, the format required Pittsford diver, Carrie DeMoulin, to compete much earlier in the morning. In the end, the early start made little difference as she won the competition with a score of 182.80 points.  The margin of victory was narrow however.  Second place went to a diver from CBA who scored 181.15 points!
Event 6 was the 100 Butterfly and Pittsford took seven of the top twelve spots.  In second and third place were Sarah Dempsey (1:02.63) and Erica Bryson (1:03.48).  Jennifer Conklin took fifth (1:09.85) while Sydney Ryan picked up eight place (1:13. 56). Coming in tenth, eleventh and twelfth place were Lainy Hummel (1:16.63), Genevieve Yaeger (1:20.13) and Alyssa Likly (1:20.68).
Shannon Dempsey placed third (58.01) in the 100 Freestyle event.  Kala Wilkins and Elizabeth Maier swam to fifth (58.83) and sixth place (59.08) finishes.
Depth was a factor in the 500 Free where the Pittsford S’Women had six swimmers finish in the top ten. Danielle Proper (5:33.70) placed third while Maddie Ashworth (5:35.76) finished 4th and Olivia Holodnik (5:46.14) came in 5th. Katie Hart (5:52.50) swam to a seventh place finish while Audrey Hunt (6:00.34) and Anna Grazulis (6:02.60) contributed with 9th and 10th place finishes.
Next up was the 200 Free Relay. Pittsford’s “A” team took first (Shannon Dempsey, Elizabeth Maier, Jenny Riley, Kala Wilkins) with a time of 1:46.02.  Five other Pittsford relay groups placed within the top twelve.  They included Olivia Holodnik, Maddie Ashworth, Katie Hart and Jennifer Proper who finished fourth (1:51.96), the “C” group of Erin Connolly, Jennifer Conklin, Mallory Ward and Danielle Proper who finished sixth (1:53.13) and the “D” relay of Stephanie Andrews, Sydney Ryan, Audrey Hunt and Anna Grazulis who finished 7th (1:56.88) .  Coming in 10th and 11th were the teams of Lydia Hunt, Lainy Hummel, Isabella Joynt and Mackenzie Ward (2:02.12) and Jenna Mattina, Briana Viera, Meagan Branch, and Alyssa Likly (2:02.21).
In the 100 Backstroke, Jennifer Proper (1:05.92) and Erica Bryson (1:06.01) finished in fifth and sixth place respectively while Jenny Riley (1:08.50) and Maddie Ashworth (1:09.10) placed eighth and ninth. Amanda House (1:17.12) and Mackenzie Ward (1:19.11) finished in fifth and seventh place while Andrea Meyer (1:23.61) and Megan Branch (1:27.41) picked up ninth and eleventh place.
Once again depth played a factor in the 400 Freestyle Relay.  The combination of Sarah Dempsey, Jenny Riley, Erica Bryson, and Shannon Dempsey took second place with a time of 3:49.93 while four additional Pittsford relay teams scored points.  Olivia Holodnik, Amanda House, Danielle Phillips and Stephanie Andrews took fifth (4:05.74) while Katie Hart, Erin Connolly, Danielle Proper and Jennifer Conklin finished sixth (4:09.39).  The combination of Kaelan Fennell, Audrey Hunt, Lainy Hummel and Anna Grazulis placed ninth (4:22.89). Finishing tenth was the relay of Jenna Mattina, Laura Petishnok, Alyssa Likly and Emily Carroll with a time of 4:31.29.
Looking ahead, it’s a quiet week for the Pittsford S’Women.  Their next dual-meet is scheduled for Thursday October the 8th when they travel to Penfield to take on the Patriots at 4:30pm. Following that contest, the Varsity team and selected members of the JV will travel to Hamilton College for the Empire Invitational on Saturday October 10th.
